Through detailed field and laboratory study of sedimentary (and sometimes igneous) rocks, we reconstruct the ancient Earth system to answer fundamental questions on the evolution of depositional environments, the oxygen and carbon cycles, how these changes may have impacted the formation of critical mineral deposits, and other questions of scientific and societal relevance.
